Il aurait été impossible pour les développeurs du remake sur PSP de Tactics Ogre de ne pas demander aux compositeurs originaux de reprendre leur œuvre pour lui donner, à elle aussi, une nouvelle jeunesse. C’est donc tout naturellement que Hitoshi Sakimoto et Masaharu Iwata ont revisité, quinze ans après, leur travail sur ce RPG tactique dont on dit souvent que la suite spirituelle est le célèbre Final Fantasy Tactics. Les bandes originales des deux jeux sont comparables à plus d’un titre, Sakimoto et Iwata ayant opté pour le même style orchestral, un style sombre s’accordant tout à fait à l’intrigue politique de Yasumi Matsuno. Les différentes pistes de combat, quant à elles, alternent entre marches militaires (le plus souvent signées Iwata) et symphonies plus mystérieuses.
Mais contrairement à quinze ans plus tôt, les deux compositeurs ne sont plus seuls. Unis au sein de leur studio Basiscape, ils sont entourés de musiciens plus jeunes à qui ils ont confié la plus grande partie du travail d’arrangement pour le remake, surtout pour les mélodies originales de Sakimoto. Sans jamais faire mentir le style de leurs mentors, ils ont subtilement dépoussiéré et enrichi les orchestrations de la SNES. Le scénario du jeu ayant été étoffé, une poignée de nouveaux morceaux ont été spécialement écrits ou arrangés pour l’occasion. Cerise sur le gâteau, quelques pistes ont été enregistrées en Australie par le Sydney Scoring Orchestra, dont la célèbre « Overture », le thème de fin « Passing Moment » ou encore l’une des nouvelles compositions, « Taking the Field ».
Le quatrième CD est un disque de 8 cm sur lequel est reproduite une sélection de pistes du jeu SNES original. Pour l’occasion, Yasuhiro Yamanaka de Square Enix s’est occupé du mastering.
